What Himalayan salt actually costs, published on a page anyone can read
Nobody else in this industry publishes prices. We do, because the alternative — three emails and four days to find out you are twice a buyer’s budget — wastes everyone’s time. These are indicative ex-works bands for August 2026, not a binding offer.
Edible pink salt
Ex-works US dollars per kilogram, plain salt in 25 kg PP bags with food-grade liner, natural colour, standard screening tolerance. This is the line most buyers are here for.
| Order size | Extra fine & fine <0.3 / 0.3–1 mm |
Medium & coarse 1–2 / 2–5 mm |
Extra coarse & rock 5–8 mm / chunks |

Ex-works Jhelum. Add ocean or air freight, insurance, destination charges and any duty. See the landed-cost example below for what that actually adds.
Every other line
Same basis: ex-works, standard packing, natural colour, August 2026.
Bath & spa salt
| Order size | Plain unscented | Scented / coloured blend | Scrub base (salt + carrier oil) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25–100 kg | $1.45–$1.70 / kg | — | — |
| 500 kg – 5 MT | $0.82–$1.05 / kg | $1.60–$2.60 / kg | $2.10–$3.40 / kg |
| Full container | $0.58–$0.74 / kg | $1.30–$2.10 / kg | $1.75–$2.80 / kg |
Blended lines carry a 500 kg minimum per fragrance because a blending run has setup and cleandown cost regardless of batch size.

| Natural 2–3 kg, wood base | $5.20–$6.40 | $4.10–$5.20 | $3.20–$4.10 | 50 pcs |

Prices include a UL/ETL-certified cord set where the format has one. A lamp quoted materially below these bands is almost always carrying an uncertified cord which is the component that got 80,000 lamps recalled in the US in 2017.

Roughly what your quantity lands at
A rough ex-works band, computed from the tables above. It is arithmetic, not an offer but it will tell you inside ten seconds whether this is the right conversation to be having.
Five variables, in order of impact
- Volume. The single biggest lever. The gap between a 100 kg price and a container price is roughly 2.5× on the same salt. If you can consolidate two quarters of demand into one shipment, do it.
- Packing format. Bulk bags are cheapest per kilo, 25 kg sacks are standard, retail packs cost several times more per kilo because you are buying labour, film, cartons and artwork rather than salt.
- Screening and colour tolerance. A tight sieve spec or a request for uniform pink means sorting, which means yield loss. Expect 10–25% on top.
- Testing scope. Standard COA is included. Full microbiological panels, extended heavy metals or per-pallet testing are chargeable, typically $80–$260 per lot depending on scope.
- Incoterm. A FOB Karachi figure and a DDP New Jersey figure for identical salt can differ by more than the salt is worth. Always compare quotes on the same term.
These bands were set in August 2026. Ocean freight on the Karachi–US lane has swung by more than 200% inside a single year before now. We requote freight at booking, never at enquiry.
What a 20ft container actually costs a US importer
Nobody publishes this either. Figures are indicative for a US East Coast port, August 2026, and every line except the salt will move with the market. Your customs broker's numbers beat ours.
| Line item | Basis | Indicative cost | Per kg |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fine edible pink salt, 25 MT | $0.63 / kg ex-works, mid-band | $15,750 | $0.630 |
| Bags, liners, palletisation | 1,000 × 25 kg bags + 20 pallets | $740 | $0.030 |
| Inland haulage Jhelum → Karachi | Per container | $620 | $0.025 |
| Export clearance & port charges | Per container | $390 | $0.016 |
| Ocean freight Karachi → US East Coast | 20ft, transshipped | $2,400–$4,200 | $0.096–$0.168 |
| Marine insurance | 0.35% of CIF value | $75 | $0.003 |
| US customs duty, HTS 2501.00.0000 | General rate: Free | $0 | $0.000 |
| Customs brokerage, ISF, Prior Notice filing | Per entry | $210–$420 | $0.008–$0.017 |
| Terminal handling & drayage to warehouse | Within 80 km of port | $680–$1,100 | $0.027–$0.044 |
| Devanning / unloading | Palletised, forklift | $250 | $0.010 |
| Landed total | 25 MT delivered to warehouse | $21,115–$23,555 | $0.845–$0.942 |
The two things this table teaches
First: the salt is roughly two-thirds of your landed cost and the freight is most of the rest, so chasing a supplier down by three cents a kilo while ignoring the Incoterm is the wrong optimisation. Second: US duty on salt under HTS heading 2501 is Free at the General rate, so anyone selling you "duty-free via GSP" paperwork is selling you nothing. Verify the current rate at hts.usitc.gov before each shipment additional tariff actions can change treatment independently of the base rate.
Small orders are freight, not salt
Flip it around for a 100 kg air-freighted order and the ratio inverts: the salt might be $120 and the freight and handling $380. That is not us marking up small orders it is what a courier charges for 100 kg of dense cargo. It is also why we tell small buyers to order 500 kg by sea rather than 100 kg by air whenever the timeline allows.
Terms, written plainly
Not one competitor site reviewed during our research published payment terms. Here are ours.
- Samples and orders under about $2,000. Card or bank transfer in full. Courier charges are credited against your first commercial order.
- Pallet and part-container orders. 30% advance by telegraphic transfer, 70% against a scanned copy of the bill of lading. We release originals on cleared funds.
- Full containers. The same 30/70 split, or an irrevocable letter of credit at sight through a bank we both recognise. For first-time buyers we prefer the L/C it protects you more than it protects us.
- After three clean shipments. We will discuss open terms, typically net 30 against documents, subject to a credit reference.
What we will not do is take 100% in advance from a first-time buyer. If a supplier asks you for that, walk away including if it is us on a bad day.
Incoterms we quote
- EXW Jhelum you or your forwarder collect from the plant.
- FOB Karachi / Port Qasim the standard for containerised salt, and the term most of our buyers use.
- CFR / CIF destination port we arrange ocean freight, and insurance in the case of CIF.
- DDP — delivered duty paid to your door. Available, priced higher, and worth it only if you have no broker relationship.
When you should not buy from us
We would rather lose an order than take one that goes wrong. Buy elsewhere if:
- You need under 25 kgBuy retail
- Municipal road de-icing in North AmericaBuy domestic
- You need 40+ containers a month of one SKUBuy from a larger mill
- You need stock in under three weeksBuy from a US stockist
- You need health claims on the labelWe will not print them
For road de-icing specifically: domestic US mined salt and imported solar salt usually beat Pakistani rock salt on landed cost, and the demand spike lands exactly when the lane is most congested. We say so on the industrial salt page too.
Send us a competing quote with the Incoterm, grain spec and packing on it and we will either beat it or tell you it is a good price and you should take it. We have done the second more often than the first.
Send us a spec — we quote within one working day
Tell us the grade, grain size, packing and destination port. You get a written quotation, a specification sheet, and a sample on its way the same week. Trial orders start at 25 kg.
