Buy Himalayan salt from 25 kg. No container minimum.
Most exporters will not quote you below 25 metric tons. That is a thousand times more salt than a new brand needs, and it is why so many small buyers end up paying a domestic repacker four times the mine price. We built a small-order cell to fix it.
Why the industry's minimum is 25 tonnes, and why ours is 25 kilograms
It is not a quality issue or a regulatory issue. It is a packing-hall issue. A container order is one production run, one set of documents and one invoice. A 25 kg order is the same paperwork for 0.1% of the revenue, so exporters price it away or refuse it outright.
What happens to small buyers today
They email eight exporters, get two replies, both saying "MOQ one container", and end up buying from a US repacker at $3.50–$6.00 a kilo for salt that left Pakistan at $0.63. The repacker earns that margin honestly they carried the container risk. But it prices out anyone testing a product.
What we changed
We ring-fenced a corner of the packing hall with a courier scale, printed labels, 5/10/25 kg sacks and a documentation template that generates in about four minutes instead of a day. Small orders now cost us roughly what they should, so we can price them at roughly what they should cost you.
Why we bother
Self-interest. Four of our current container accounts started with a single bag. A buyer who tests properly, gets a clean lab report and finds the grain right is a buyer who scales. Turning them away at 25 kg means someone else gets them at 25 tonnes.
Exactly what you can order, and from how little
Stock items go out in days. Made-to-order lines carry a higher minimum because a carving bench or a compression press has to be set up regardless of how many pieces you want.

| Order | Salt cost | Freight (indicative) | Landed per kg | Mode |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 kg sample | Free | $55–$95 | — | Courier |
| 25 kg | $39–$45 | $180–$320 | $8.76–$14.60 | Courier |
| 100 kg | $110–$140 | $310–$520 | $4.20–$6.60 | Courier / air |
| 500 kg | $425–$550 | $620–$980 | $2.09–$3.06 | Air or LCL sea |

| 25,000 kg (20ft) | $15,750 | $4,700–$7,100 | $0.82–$0.91 | FCL sea |
If your timeline allows six to eight weeks, 500 kg by LCL sea freight is the point where the numbers start making commercial sense. Going from 25 kg to 500 kg cuts your landed cost per kilogram by roughly 75%, and the courier bill barely changes between 25 and 100 kg.
Salt is dense and cheap. Air freight charges by chargeable weight, so you end up paying more for the transport than the product several times over. If you need stock in ten days, order it. If you can wait five weeks, sea freight will save you more than the salt costs.
First order, start to finish
Tell us what you sell
Not what grade you want what you are selling and to whom. Half our small buyers ask for the wrong fraction on the first email, and it is quicker to fix that in a two-line reply than after the box lands.
Free sample, then trial
Up to 2 kg free, courier at your cost, credited back. If you need a production-scale test, go straight to a paid 25 kg bag instead.
Pay and dispatch
Card or transfer for anything under about $2,000. Dispatch within two to four working days for stock lines, with tracking and the lab report emailed the same day.
Scale when ready
Second orders are usually 100–500 kg, third orders are usually a pallet, and private label opens at 500 kg per SKU. Your account contact stays the same person the whole way.
The customers small orders are actually for
New food and spice brands. Testing a fine grade in a grinder-topped jar before committing to 1,000 units of packaging. This is our single biggest small-order segment.
Soap, bath and candle makers. Buying 25–100 kg of extra coarse for bath soaks and scrubs. Often selling on Etsy or at markets, often scaling faster than they expect.
Restaurants and private chefs. A handful of cooking blocks and a bag of finishing salt. Small orders, high repeat rate, and excellent referral sources into restaurant supply.
Spas and salt-room operators. A brick sample before a 44 m² order, or a few hundred kilos of floor salt for a replacement cycle.
Distributors testing a new supplier. Buyers who already import containers and want to run a lab check on our material against their incumbent before switching. We encourage this and we will tell you honestly if your current supplier's spec is better than ours.
E-commerce sellers. Amazon and Shopify sellers who need enough stock to validate a listing without tying up capital in a container. If this is you, read the salt lamp business guide before you order the margins are not what most listing-research tools suggest.
Tell us how the trial went, even if the answer is that you went elsewhere. Grain feedback from small buyers is how we catch a screening drift before a container buyer finds it.
What buyers ask before their first bag
It is really the minimum for edible, plain bath and mixed starter boxes. The catch, such as it is, sits in the freight table above: at 25 kg the courier costs more than the salt. We are not hiding that, and we will usually suggest you order 100 kg instead if your cash flow allows, because the courier bill barely changes.
The same salt, from the same lot, with the same lab report and the same batch number. We do not run a "small order grade". The only differences are packing format and price per kilogram.
Not at 25 kg. Private label opens at 500 kg or 1,000 units per SKU, because artwork setup, plate or die costs and a proofing round have to be absorbed somewhere. What we can do below that is supply plain bulk salt and let you pack it yourself which is how most of our private-label customers started.
Courier shipments still require FDA Prior Notice for food, which the courier's broker normally files as part of their service confirm that when you book. US duty on salt under HTS 2501 is Free at the General rate. Formal entry is generally required above the de minimis threshold, so budget for a brokerage charge on anything over a couple of hundred dollars in value. Details are in the import guide.
Yes, same lead times. Canadian food importers need a Safe Food for Canadians licence from CFIA with a Preventive Control Plan, and the licence number has to be declared correctly on the import declaration. That applies at 25 kg as much as at 25 tonnes, so sort it before you order rather than after the box is at the border.
Card or bank transfer for anything under about $2,000. We do not ask small buyers for letters of credit the bank charges alone would exceed the order value.
Yes, and we would rather you did. A video call with the packing hall running takes ten minutes and tells you more than any certificate wall. Unannounced is fine. Ask for it when you email.
Send us a spec — we quote within one working day
Tell us the grade, grain size, packing and destination port. You get a written quotation, a specification sheet, and a sample on its way the same week. Trial orders start at 25 kg.
